What's This All About? (FAQs)

What is the October Dress Project?
The October Dress Project is a month long fast from your wardrobe, by choosing one dress and wearing it from October 1 to October 31.

Why would anyone want to wear the same dress for a month?
The answer to this question is different for everyone.  Some people want to make a statement for simplicity, ingenuity, anti-consumerism or art. Some may want to consider their priorities, their contentment level or their participation in society's fashion rules for women. Some people may be doing it to raise funds for a charity To read about other's reasons and experiences, visit the links on my blog.

Do you wash that old dress?
Of course! You can wash (or not wash) your dress as often as you want. I am a stay at home mom of 4, finding a load of laundry around here is as easy as breathing.

Does the dress have to be red?
No. A lot of participants choose black or brown dresses, as they are easiest to incorporate into a myriad of outfits. But I have seen lots of colors too. I already owned this red dress, it's cotton and comfortable. It just happened to be red.

Can you wear anything else with that dress?
Yes! Accessories are encouraged. Finding new ways to wear the same thing is part of the point for a lot of the participants.

Are there any exceptions to wearing the dress everyday?
My only exceptions are workout clothes, bathing suits and pajamas, for obvious reasons. If I had to wear a work uniform, that would be the other exception.
